Force on Racial Attack and Harassment
The YAS group meets twice a month (usually on the second and fourth Thursday
of the month) at 5:00 p.m. Meetings generally begin with prayer and song, followed
by a lecture or discussion on a topic of interest to foreign students.
In addition, people share jokes, stories, experiences, and even short
drama pieces with one another.
In the summer months, YAS members train for the annual volleyball
and football (soccer) competition against the French-speaking Protestant
Church.
The YAS group provides important service to the congregation by acting
as ushers and preparing the worship space. Once a year the YAS group
leads the worship.
YAS administers the distribution of food bags
to students and refugees, as well as the bi-annual distribution of
used clothing. It also organizes the YAS library, which consists of
English-language textbooks and Christian literature.
YAS has its own council to plan and lead its activities. The current
YAS council includes members from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Russia, and the United States. Rony Kumi of Ghana chairs the YAS Council. For more information about YAS, contact Rony at the Parish Center at 143-5748.
