STUDENTS
+ REFUGEES
Young Adults and
Students
| Parish Center | Task
Force on Racial Attack and Harassment
More than half of MPC's members are students and refugees from around
the world, but especially from Africa and India. Many people from
poor countries come to Russia to take advantage of its solid and relatively
inexpensive system of higher education. When war makes it impossible
for these students to return home, they become refugees in Moscow.
They are joined by other refugees and migrants who make their way
to Russia because of personal connections or haphazard circumstances.
The students and refugees bring many gifts to our community, and they
are involved in all areas of our ministry. They teach children in
Sunday school, sing in the choir, volunteer in the soup kitchens,
participate in the church council, and serve as worship leaders.
The students and refugees have their own group -- YAS
(Young Adults and Students) -- which meets twice a month. |
