In 1991, the leadership of the Moscow
Protestant Chaplaincy discerned a calling to share food with the
poor in Moscow. That was a particularly difficult time in Russia, as
inflation eroded the savings and pensions of millions.
We
have continued to hear the call of Jesus to go forth and feed the
hungry: the elderly, children, refugees and foreign students. We
provide food to the poor in two ways: through soup
kitchens and food
bags.
We praise God that so many people have joined
together in the effort to reach out to the poor in Moscow. Loving
people from around the world have offered their time to serve meals
to the hungry or their financial support to pay for the food. We are
thankful to our many donors who include the International Women's
Club, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Presbyterian
Church (USA), the United Methodist Church, the Reformed Church in
America, and many congregations and individuals around the world.
